“This is what I am supposed to be doing right now,” said the twentysomething.
“What is?” replied the elder.
“Having the time of my life,” he sighed.
This is the typical thought of a twentysomething. They think their twenties are supposed to be awesome and that they should “live it up” while they still have the chance. The problem is they aren’t going to be living anything up later in life if they do not do anything productive in their twenties.
Below is a list of things you need to start doing and/or accomplish in your twenties.
If you can’t get a job doing what you love and what you went to school for then at least get a job doing something that will teach you how to earn money and budget.
Did you know that employers tend to overlook job seekers who have been unemployed for more than six months?
Make sure you are doing anything, something. Be proactive.
This goes hand in hand with “get a job.” If you are living at home with mom and dad then this is the perfect time to start saving for when you want to start a family; buy a house; or save for retirement.
After you’ve saved some money then it is time to move out of your parent’s house. You do not want to be stuck at home at thirty. That would be horrible.
I am not suggesting that you go on a manhunt, settling on the first victim you lay your eyes on. I am only saying to stop thinking “I have to live it up” (and sleep with as many people now as I can). This is not living it up. That is called sl**ting it up. Keep it classy, and try to be open-minded.
