If you are taking an online class, don’t bank on not having to give a presentation because there may be Skype presentations.
Giving a presentation is terrifying. I know this first hand. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be, or at least it can be a little less painful.
Here is how to give a killer presentation.
Preparation is the key to success. I didn’t prepare for one of the biggest presentations of my life, and I actually thought I was going to go up there and kill it like Steve Jobs used to. EMBARRASSING is all I have to say.
Do your research. Make sure you are an expert on the topic you are presenting on because you are never going to be able to prepare for every question you get asked. Have a list of questions, and then present to a few different people. Ask them to ask you questions.
Remember you can never get enough practice.
Content is king. Remember that.
Not only do you need spectacular information but you also need killer visuals. Humans are visual creatures so give them a beautiful PowerPoint to look at it with very little words. You don’t want them reading while you’re giving your presentation.
Plus if you know your stuff (as you should) then you won’t need words up on the screen to tell you what to say. Your slides should be a road map through your presentation.
A good delivery only comes with practice so make sure you do just that!
If you’re like me you probably feel awkward or shy talking in front of a large group of people. I still fight with this to this day, but you don’t have to.
Your presence will shape up with the more experience you get, and the more practice. So once again get practicing!
